Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Review

What’s up 20 Somethings,
I hope you’re having the best December. With the weather heating up, your skincare routine should be bulking up to defend your skin from sun damage and dryness! This is why I was super excited to receive the Neutrogena Hydroboost Water gel from Rubybox.36187648_unknown.jpg

This moisturiser is dedicated to hydrating the skin and locking in intense hydration. I’ve been using it for over two weeks now and it’s the best moisturiser I have come across this year, like if you want to invest in a good skincare product, this is the one. It’s oil free so I don’t shine bright like a diamond after application, It’s extremely lightweight and non-sticky which means it spreads over my skin easily and is absorbed effortlessly. My skin feels fresh after applying it, as if a thirst has been quenched.

IMG_0923

It’s secret ingredient? Purified Hyaluronic Acid which absorbs up to 1000x it’s weight in water, the formula of the water gel then releases the hydration back into the skin all day long. (Super sciencey but it sounds legit and it works!)

This great product is available at any Clicks or Dis-chem for R139,95 which makes is a great middle market product with amazing quality.

Take care of your skin Babes!

Nivea Toning Lotion Review

Whats up, 20 Somethings!

It’s been a minute since I’ve written a review, but never fear, good things come to those who wait!

We all know how I feel about Nivea products, they’re amazing quality and so damn affordable. I literally do a little happy dance whenever I get sent something from Nivea.

This time, Rubybox sent me the new Perfect and Radiant Toning Lotion for oily skin. This product promises to control shine, purify and clear your skin, while also preventing blemishes. It’s got Magnolia Extract and is developed for skin which is prone to oiliness and blemishes.

36187568_Unknown

From my previous reviews, you’ll know I’m not always the biggest fan of toners, I sometimes find that some toning products are unnecessary for your skincare routine and a lot of products often irritate the skin.

After using this toning lotion for the past few days, I can safely say it’s a toner like no other. It smells like a lotion and does not leave my skin feeling dry or tight after application. In fact it works so well I can go without moisturiser if I feel like it.

If you suffer from oily skin, this is a great product to add to your skincare regime.

Here’s a picture of my skin after two weeks of using this product!

Until next time lovelies!

#BBUndercover Mystery Products!

So for those of you who follow our Instagram page, We’ve been sent these mystery products from the Beauty Bulletin.
This shampoo and conditioner contains Shea Butter…and that’s all I know about it.

I’ve basically been asked to review it blindly, without any knowledge of the contents, price, packaging or brand.

I’ve been using the products for a week now on my hair and I can honestly say I’m happy with the results. It’s sweet smell lingers for a while after a wash and I keep having people tell me how great my hair smells. The smell is very familiar, my first thought was that it’s Head and Shoulders, but after comparing the two products’ smells my theory proved incorrect.

This mystery product makes my hair feel softer and it also detangles my hair easily. (I literally just use my fingertips to run through my hair after it’s been conditioned and no tangles!) The product leaves my hair with unbelievable body and curl definition.

The only negative thing I have to say about this product is that it contains sulphates. And I usually use a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. I also suspect that the conditioner is too strong to use as a leave in conditioner as I seem to be having a negative skin reaction from leaving the conditioner in.

I usually buy my haircare products at Clicks and my suspicion that this product is something I could find on their shelves.

I cannot guess what this product is, but the quality is astounding.

After 4 washes I think it’s exactly what my hair needed! Can’t wait to find out what it is. Watch this space to find out!
CAN YOU GUESS WHAT I’M USING? Let me know in the comments!

Rimmel Stay Matte Range Review

Watch my Youtube Make up Look Here!

I was literally the happiest girl on the planet when Rubybox sent me this amazing range from Rimmel. 12 amazing matte lip colours that promise long lasting wear (12 hours- HELLO!) and if that’s not enough for you, they’re also touch proof, waterproof and kiss proof! (Basically Life Proof)

35921984_Unknown 2

I put this lip colour to the test, to make sure that it lives up to the hype. (I posted the “Tourture Test” to our Instagram page: @20SomethingsBlog) I wasn’t disappointed, the lipstick lasted over 13 hours with ONE APPLICATION! I ate, drank, kissed and the colour did not smudge or leave marks anywhere!

Midnight 2

Swatches for Days!

The colours are super pigmented and one coat of lipstick is all you need for a rocking 12 hour long look. With 12 colours to choose from, there’s definitely something for everyone in this range. The range came with a lovely set of nudes and nude pinks, which I got really excited about, because I’ve been on the hunt for a nude lip. Unfortunately none of the nudes in this range suit my skin tone. For my brown girls, you’re gonna wanna stick to the darker colours: Midnight, Plum This Show, Heartbeat, Fire Starter, Rose and Shine and maybe Pink Blink.
(Rimmel, if you’re reading this, brown girls need nudes too!)

The application is tricky, it’s quite thick and you need to be careful not to purse your lips while applying it because it creates unevenness in the colour and lines you don’t want. Once it’s dry though (2 mins max) you’re good to do whatever you wanna do with your lips. It’s lightweight and comfortable on your lips with a velvety matte finish.

35922016_Unknown

At the end of the day this product is amazing and I’ll definitely be using it a lot in the near future. Let’s just hope Rimmel makes some nude colours for my skin tone, because I NEED IT!

If you wanna add this range to your collection, it’ll cost you R119.99 ONLY! OMG! #AffordableAF or if you want to win your own set, follow our Instagram account in November and lookout for our giveaway!

Stealth Fitness Claremont (Review)

What’s up 20 Somethings!

Last Saturday I woke up early and started my day with a workout/grid class at a new gym called Stealth Fitness in Claremont.

About Stealth:
The gym is owned by a young man named Esmond, who completed courses in Personal Training, sports massage therapy and nutrition. Esmond spent his time after graduating travelling and working as a personal trainer and massage therapist before opening his own gym. The aim of the gym is to deliver quality service and to ensure that their members see the value in making healthier life choices. The welcoming environment encourages these life choices. Everyone is welcome at Stealth, they ensure that members feel included and looked after at all times. There are on-site bio-kineticists and sports massage therapists in addition to a team of personal trainers.
There is also a coffee shop that serves amazing pre-workout drinks and Nutritech bars for after a heavy workout.

My Experience:
I took a class with an old friend of mine, Sune Esch. Who is a trained dancer- which contributes to a great workout due to her dance history. She understands the way the human body works and provides clear instruction as to how to perform the exercises without endangering your body in anyway.

DSC_3545

The class started with a step warm up, which got everyone’s blood flowing in preparation for the grid workout we did afterward.

The class sizes are small, which means that you get individual attention during your workout, which is a great perk when compared to some of the bigger gyms in the area.

I worked up quite the sweat in this class and felt that I got a well rounded workout and a dynamic stretching session at the end. Stretching is very important for me as I feel that a lot of gyms overlook the cool-down stretch at the end of a class, but this was not the case at Stealth. (check out our Instagram @20SomethingsBlog for the workout video)

The gym facilities are good, despite the small size of the gym, it’s perfect for personal training sessions and small group classes. So if that’s the type of workout you’re looking for, Stealth is for you.

On the negative side:
The music was played straight from Youtube and didn’t really fit the “workout” vibe at all. For me, music is a huge part of a workout, if the music isn’t good, I find little motivation to push myself. Of course, this could be rectified by just making a proper workout playlist to play at the gym. I have a great workout playlist I could share with them if they need it.

If you want to try Stealth Fitness out in Stadium on Main, Claremont, they are offering free classes for the rest of October!

#CherubsCares Facial Wipes (Review)

Two weeks ago I was sent the new Cherubs Facial Wipes from the Beauty Bulletin. They sent me a great little hamper that contained facial wipes for normal skin (Blue) and for sensitive/dry skin (Pink) as well as some cotton wool pads and buds.

My first impression of this product is that it removes my make up effortlessly, leaving my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

Eco- friendly and affordable, this product has definitely snuck it’s way into my heart.
A few months ago I stopped using facial wipes, I found them too expensive and always felt like I was wasting them, as I never used the entire wipe.
This is the first time I’ve used a wipe again since converting to an alternative form of make up removal and I must say that I am impressed.
F856C653-110D-4BD5-845D-D0AFB7388577
I try to pay attention to the impact my life has on the environment, so knowing that this product is bio-digradeable, really makes me feel like I’m being kind to the earth – considering how many facial wipes a girl uses in a day.

I love that it’s free of parabens and alcohol, and the fact that it’s pH balanced is always a plus. My skin feels smooth due to the chamomile extracts in the wipes which contribute to my skin feeling fresh, soft and able to breathe after removing my make up.

I will definitely be repurchasing this product and have shared it with friends!

How I Survived My First Music Festival

How I Survived my first music festival

My response to anyone who asks me why I don’t like festivals has always been, “Man I like to shower.” Because let’s be honest, the idea of sleeping in a tent on a wine farm for four days has never been my idea of fun.

But 2017 is the year I’ve decided to start doing the things I’ve always wanted to try, and a music festival was one of them. So I decided to go with one of the most popular festivals in Cape Town. Rocking The Daisies.

IMG_3799

Now anyone who knows me will tell you, I like to have my shit organised (Okay, not my room, but in other aspects of my life) I like to go into things knowing exactly what to expect…However this was not the case for Daisies. I had no idea what to pack, how to pack, how people camp, what food to take with. It gave me a lot of unnecessary anxiety. So of course, when in doubt, I turned to Facebook. I asked my friends what they recommend packing for a festival, and they really did come through.

IMG_3893

If you pack one thing and one thing only to a music festival, let it be WET WIPES. These will save your life. And no matter how much you like showers, you’ll probably only end up showering once or maybe twice in four days. Believe me, the lines are long, which mean no morning showers (Which is when you’re sober and want to shower) I showered at 5pm in the afternoon, drunk af, trying to wash myself- but there was no line. So unless you’re keen to break your party buzz to shower, wet wipes will help you keep your personal hygiene in tact.
I suggest Facial Wipes (Cherubs just released an amazing range of bio-degradable facial wipes) and Intimate Wipes for your lady bits. (Clicks has a good range, as well as Lil-lets)

You need warm clothes. Trust. It may be summer, but wine farms get cold at night. One raincoat and a hoodie is all you need, as well as a good, thick pair of jeans. Pack in an extra blanket with your sleeping bag, to keep nice and warm in your tent.

IMG_3817

Going to a festival is basically signing up for 4 days of non-stop drinking. That’s all good and well, but you wanna take care of your body too. Pack in some liver tablets (Essentiale is what I use, GOODBYE HANGOVERS!) It’ll help your body process the toxins you’re digesting and take a six pack of water. You’ll be surprised how much water you’ll want to drink.

Of course, festivals have become a big fashion show. When I was packing, I was worried I was gonna look too “bougee” at the festival. But TBH, I looked like a homeless person in comparison to some of the other girls there. THEY WENT ALL OUT. They were on fleek. It was great. Pack your pretty lacy outfits, your flower crowns, maxi skirts and cute hippie jackets. Don’t pack: Your favourite pair of shoes. It’s dusty AF there, they won’t make it out alive.

IMG_3790

Speaking of dust, it’s all you’ll be breathing for four days straight, pack some tissues to keep those nasal passages clear. Or even better pack a bandana to cover your mouth and nose while you’re on the dance floor.

I laughed when someone told me to bring a fanny pack (Although i packed one anyways.) but then I got there, and everyone was wearing one. And I figured out why pretty fast. They keep your valuables so safe and they’re tied around your waist, so you can’t lose it. And it serves as 100% protection from pickpockets!

The worst thing I think, were the toilets. They’re porte-potties. Now I’m sure I don’t have to explain how gross those can get at music festivals. Pack your own toilet paper, hand sanitiser and always use the toilets right at the back (most of the time drunk people are too lazy to walk that far and mess them up.)

IMG_3830

If you want to be able to take pictures and have a working phone for the weekend, pack a good portable charger (They’re lifesavers).

And the most important thing is to get comfortable with partying by yourself. You’ll lose your friends, a few times. There’s no point in looking for them, you’ll only be reunited by chance. I spent majority of this weekend jamming hard, all by myself. And it was cool actually. The music was good, I had alcohol and you see people you know all the time so you’re never really alone.

IMG_3791

All in all, my first festival experience was amazing. Would I do it again? Probably, but I’d buy a more luxurious camping package- I have needs, you know. But it was awesome. Thanks Rocking The Daisies for rocking my world.

Smash box Primerizer (Review)

Great Product Alert!

Finding a good primer is vital for your skin, especially if you wear make up often. I recently found put about this great product from Smashbox called the Primerizer! It’s a Primer and a moisturiser in one product!

35657936_Unknown

So basically it offers 24 hour hydration for your skin and gives you all the benefits of an awesome Primer.

I’ve been using it for the past month and it feels amazing on my skin. It’s light and has left my skin feeling so amazing. And I don’t know if this is just my imagination but I feel like my foundation spreads more easily over my skin and lasts longer!

20170925-DSC_4708

If that’s not enough to sell you, it’s also a cruelty free product. YAY ANIMALS!

Price-wise, it’s a bit of a spend. R500-520 a pop. But you only need a drop so it will last quite a while!

What Primer do you use? Be sure to let me know in the comments!

Eliminate Winter Dryness!

Let’s not lie, Winter is great, you get to wear long pants for three months straight and cover up your body to keep warm. If you’re anything like me, that also means you say goodbye to your skincare routine. Not that I don’t care about my body, it’s just too cold in winter to stand naked while I moisturise my body from head to toe.

It’s great while it lasts, but then as summer approaches, I start to panic because my skin is dry and flaky and no where near bikini ready! This is normally when I start moisturising like a beast! But this year, I’ve found a duo which has changed the game. And you know how I love to share, so ladies meet your winter saviours:
The Nivea Pampering Shower Oil and the Dove Summer Revived lotion.

IMG_3045

Okay, so the Nivea Pampering Shower Oil was recommended to me by a friend, who I’d spoken to about my dry skin and it has changed my life. It’s great because you can use it in the shower (No freezing your ass off while moisturising). I got such a surprise the first time I used it, when you squeeze it out, this golden oil comes out, but when you rub it on your skin, it foams! Creating a body wash that cleans your skin while also nourishing it, because it is made up of 55% natural oils. My skin feels like silk. And dry, flaky skin- it’s a thing of the past!

IMG_3043

The Dove Summer Revived Lotion has been my little secret for the past few years. It’s a body lotion, that provides you with all the nourishment you’ve come to expect from Dove products. But the game changer? It contains a gradual tanner, which is natural and gentle on your skin. (Say goodbye to pale skin after winter- you’ll look like you just returned from a tropical island vacation all year round.) I’m not even exaggerating when I say that this product makes you glow. Literally, it leaves my skin with a glowing, golden shimmer. (Seriously, I get complimented on my leg tan all the time when I use the product!)
